Review (ARC):
First thing I would recommend is that you review the first book again if you read it a while ago or you'll probably be lost. I have to say that this book was pretty confusing at times. But the action was so good that I didn't even mind. There is so much going on in this novel and a lot of changing points of view. Although Alex is the main character we are able to see what is going on in other areas besides the one she is currently in. I couldn't believe the amount of gore in this one. The characters are unpredictable and may not necessarily survive until the end. You learn a lot more about The Changed than in the previous novel and just when you think you have things figured out another curveball is thrown your way. There was a lot of violence and excitement and everything finally culminates into an amazing ending that will leave you breathless and anxious to read the next one. I definitely recommend this novel if you've read the first, Ashes, and like zombie type novels.

Not many people can say their entire existence has been one big lab experiment: poked and prodded by scientists, genetically modified to be the best and endure the worst, subjected to daily tests and trials that would kill a normal human. All Michaela wants is her own life, to be able to go to school, flirt with boys, maybe eat ice cream now and then. So when the chance to escape finally comes, Michaela and her sister grab it, taking their friends with them. But they weren’t the only ones to find their way out of those labs. Following close behind are another breed of creature, one that doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong, who exist only to feed their own hunger. The appearance of a strange boy who seems too much like them to be a coincidence makes things even more confusing. But as the world begins to literally fall apart around them, Michaela must accept his help, especially when she could lose the very thing she holds dearest: her sister.
Review:
This is such an awesome book. The action scenes are extremely well written and exciting. I loved Michaela because she was such a strong character and not only because she was created that way. Michaela also has something about her that sets her apart from the other girls but she doesn't know what it is or why it makes her valuable. All of the girls being experimented on are amazing examples of scientific ingenuity but also cruelty as well. I admired the fact that this book featured mostly strong and intelligent female characters who also have strength of character as well. Michaela does have a bit of a romantic interest but it isn't a romance that overshadows the action in this book. There were quite a few surprises in this book that left me wanting to know more. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book! I definitely recommend this to those who love sci-fi type novels and female heroines kicking ass!
