After Daybreak Review

336 pages

Dawn returns from L.A. with terrifying news: In his greed for power, the maniacal Day Walker Sin is raising an army and infecting his followers with the Thirst—a rabieslike disease that will turn them into mindless killers. To stop him, Dawn and Victor will have to convince humans and vampires to work together before it’s too late.

Review:
All I can say is I absolutely LOVED this novel! This is such an amazing vampire series that builds up to an amazing end. Dawn is the ideal heroine, strong and smart, despite everything she has found out that has the potential to completely change her life. Victor continues to be the strong supportive guy I'm sure we all love. I liked the fact that we get to see more of the inner workings of the vampires in this novel. There is a lot of action and excitement as Dawn and Victor travel trying to save everyone they love. All of my questions are answered at the end of this book although I do wish we had been able to see if Dawn experiences any physical changes after what she's discovered. This whole series has been a mass of adventure and danger and this last novel wraps it up neatly. I definitely recommend you read this novel if you like vampire and dystopian fiction, but make sure to read Darkness Before Dawn and Blood-Kissed Sky first.

Fall of Night Review

352 pages

Claire never thought she’d leave Morganville, but when she gets accepted into the graduate program at MIT, she can’t pass up the opportunity. Saying good-bye to her friends is bittersweet, especially since things are still raw and unsettled between Claire and her boyfriend, Shane. Her new life at MIT is scary and exciting, but Morganville is never really far from Claire’s mind. Enrolled in a special advanced study program with Professor Irene Anderson, a former Morganville native, Claire is able to work on her machine, which is designed to cancel the mental abilities of vampires. But when she begins testing her machine on live subjects, things quickly spiral out of control, and Claire starts to wonder whether leaving Morganville was the last mistake she’ll ever make...

Review:
This is the fourteenth book in The Morganville Vampires Series and it continues to bring excitement and a fresh storyline! I'm actually amazed at how the author continuously comes up with new material to keep this series alive. Once again this series has evolved to be told from different character perspectives, in this case Claire and Shane. Claire has grown so much from the shy character in the first novels and as she steps outside of Morganville, she brings her new attitude with her. Although you would think its safer outside of Morganville, there are more hidden dangers than Claire actually realized. Shane has also grown, becoming a more mature individual, and its interesting to see what he goes through having to be apart from Claire for a while. There are so many new things introduced in this story, that you just have to wonder what other surprises will be thrown our way as this series continues. The ending threw me off of a cliff and now all I can do is hang there, impatiently anticipating the next novel in this series. I definitely recommend this novel, especially if you're a fan of the Morganville Vampire series. Make sure to check out the other novels in this series if you're unfamiliar with it and looking for a new series to get into.

The Eternity Cure Review

446 pages
Release date: April 30th, 2013

Allison Sekemoto has vowed to rescue her creator, Kanin, who is being held hostage and tortured by the psychotic vampire Sarren. The call of blood leads her back to the beginning—New Covington and the Fringe, and a vampire prince who wants her dead yet may become her wary ally. Even as Allie faces shocking revelations and heartbreak like she’s never known, a new strain of the Red Lung virus that decimated humanity is rising to threaten human and vampire alike.

Review (ARC):
This series is exciting and takes you on a fast-paced adventure that will leave you breathless. Allison is such a strong heroine, physically, but emotionally she isn't sure where she fits, especially after all she's been through as a vampire. This novel begins with Allison searching for Kanin, and as she goes on this journey, she discovers that there is so much more to being a vampire than she thought. Sarren is one heck of a villain, and his plans are more devious and insanely brilliant than Allison even realizes. Quite a few old faces return in this novel and some have the potential to either destroy or help Allison in her journey. I liked the fact that we got more of an insight into how the vampires live in New Covington as well as those humans that they protect. The action is almost non-stop in this story and it keeps every new page fresh and intriguing. The ending is absolutely insane and leaves us on a crazy cliffhanger that made me want the third book to be out and in my hands already. I absolutely enjoyed this novel and I definitely recommend it to those who like vampire dystopian fiction. Of course since this is the second novel in this series, make sure to pick up The Immortal Rules first.

The Indigo Spell Review

401 pages

In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch--a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood--or else she might be next.

Review:
The Bloodlines series continues to be an exciting read in this third novel. Once again told from Sydney's perspective, we are able to delve more into the world of the Alchemists. Despite Sydney's slightly annoying tics like her weight issues and ingrained Alchemist teachings, I have to say I absolutely love her as a heroine! Sydney is intelligent as well as fully capable of defending and taking care of herself. She has also come quite a long way from the first novel when it comes to her beliefs and prejudice. Most of the old characters return but the focus in this novel is more on Sydney and the Alchemists as well as the witches. The Alchemists have so much more to their organization than we've learned about previously. Although this novel isn't big on action, it is full of intrigue and the general adventure of trying to figure out exactly what the Alchemists are up to. The ending of this novel literally had my mind whirring, I can't wait to see how Sydney handles the new bomb that has exploded in her life in the next novel. I definitely recommend that you read this novel if you like vampires and magic but make sure to read Bloodlines and The Golden Lily first.

The Prey Review

304 pages

For Gene and the remaining humans—or hepers—death is just a heartbeat away. On the run and hunted by society, they must find a way to survive in The Vast... and avoid the hungry predators tracking them in the dark. But they’re not the only things following Gene. He’s haunted by the girl he left behind and his burgeoning feelings for Sissy, the human girl at his side. When they discover a refuge of exiled humans living high in the mountains, Gene and his friends think they’re finally safe. Led by a group of intensely secretive elders, the civilisation begins to raise more questions than answers. A strict code of behaviour is the rule, harsh punishments are meted out, young men are nowhere to be found—and Gene begins to wonder if the world they’ve entered is just as evil as the one they left behind. As life at the refuge grows more perilous, he and Sissy only grow closer. In an increasingly violent world, all they have is each other... if they can only stay alive.

Review:
The world created here in which humans are food and vampires rule is frightening and full of peril. This book picks up right where the last one left off, with Gene and the hepers he helped to save, trying to stay a step ahead of the society. Although Gene and the others feel like they are on the right track to paradise, nothing can prepare them for the reality of the world beyond the city. Gene is still a strong main character although you can tell he still is conflicted within himself after having to live as a vampire for all these years. Sissy is impressing in her strength and ability to help make sure that the others are safe as well as figuring out the clues left behind by the Scientist. There are a number of returning characters as well as a whole host of new ones we meet as Gene and the others continue on their journey. This journey is one of danger and a true test to loyalty and the bonds between Gene and the other hepers. I love the fact that the author opened up the world for us so that we can see what it's like in places other than the city. There is so much action and mysteries to solve that this is just one of those books that you can't put down. I definitely recommend this novel if you like dystopian fiction and books about vampires but make sure to pick up The Hunt first.

Blood-Kissed Sky Review

368 pages

There's nowhere left to hide. I thought vampires were our enemies - they controlled our lives, isolated our cities, and demanded our blood - until I met Victor. With Victor taking over as the new Lord Valentine, things were supposed to get better. Instead, they're worse than ever. Day Walkers, a new breed of vampires who can walk in the sun, are terrorizing the city. Blood supplies are low, and if Victor's vampires don't get enough, they will become infected with the Thirst - a disease that will turn them into mindless killers. To stop it, I must journey across the desolate wasteland to the very place where the sickness began. I can only hope that the answers that await me are enough to save us all... before it's too late.

Review:
Why Why Why did this novel have to end on such a cliffhanger? I am desperate to read more! As the second novel in this series, this surpasses the first in excitement. The story picks up a little bit after the first one left off, leaving Dawn and her friends to pick up the pieces after a brutal attack. Dawn has become pretty strong and fearless which makes her a great heroine. Dawn does not disappoint in this novel, and continues to meet her challenges head on. Dawn has to deal with challenges in her romantic life as well both from her ex, Michael, and her new interest Victor. Although it seems like Dawn and Victor should finally be together, as the new Lord Valentine we see that Victor has a lot more on his plate to worry about. The action in this novel literally has you at the edge of your seat at moments. Dawn and her friends are continuously tested and put in danger at every turn that its hard to believe that they can survive. There are a lot of new revelations, most of which are completely unexpected. There is so much more behind the creation of Day Walkers and the Thirst than I even thought possible. This novel is packed with adventure and danger and exciting moments altogether. I definitely recommend that you read this novel if you like vampire novels but you should pick up Darkness Before Dawn first.

The Farm Review

420 pages

Life was different in the Before: before vampires began devouring humans in a swarm across America; before the surviving young people were rounded up and quarantined. These days, we know what those quarantines are—holding pens where human blood is turned into more food for the undead monsters, known as Ticks. Surrounded by electrical fences, most kids try to survive the Farms by turning on each other… And when trust is a thing of the past, escape is nearly impossible. Lily and her twin sister Mel have a plan. Though Mel can barely communicate, her autism helps her notice things no one else notices—like the portion of electrical fence that gets turned off every night. Getting across won’t be easy, but as Lily gathers what they need to escape, a familiar face appears out of nowhere, offering to help… Carter was a schoolmate of Lily’s in the Before. Managing to evade capture until now, he has valuable knowledge of the outside world. But like everyone on the Farm, Carter has his own agenda, and he knows that behind the Ticks is an even more dangerous threat to the human race...

Review:
I rarely get tired of dystopian vampire novels and this is not an exception. This is an interesting twist on typical vampire lore which makes for an exciting story. Imagine communities being built within fences where after a certain age you are fed to vampires to keep them satisfied. This new world is a harsh one where all kind of atrocities are committed in order to survive. This story is mostly told from Lily's point of view, also alternating between Carter and Mel. Lily, quite honestly, gets on my nerves. She never listens and is extremely stubborn when she's wrong most of the time. Mel is interesting as an autistic character since to others she seems like she doesn't see much but really she notices way more than most. Carter is such a great guy although he has his own motives behind his reappearance in Lily's life. There are a lot of secrets and mysteries to be solved about the truth behind the vampires destroying most of the human race. There is plenty of action that keep this story going at a great pace. I definitely recommend reading this if you like dystopian vampire novels.

Bitter Blood Review

404 pages

For years, the human and vampire residents of Morganville, Texas, have managed to co-exist in peace. But now that the threat to the vampires has been defeated, the human residents are learning that the gravest danger they face is the enemy within… Thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires. To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news… or worse.

Review:
I wondered what new horrors could befall the town of Morganville and it turned out to be a lot more. It turns out that the Morganville vampires are a lot scarier when they don't have any real rules to live behind. As usual its up to Claire to figure everything out and help save the people and vampires in the town from crossing the point of no return. Claire is her usual smart and spunky self although she does let her emotions get the better of her at times. I wasn't the biggest fan of Shane by the end of this book because as usual he screws things up by being a complete idiot. I'm glad that Claire finally is able to stand up for herself in her relationship and I'm impressed with her decision at the end of the book.. There is a lot of drama about the marriage between Michael and Eve which definitely helps to amp up the action in this story as well. I really enjoyed this novel and I'm impressed with how the author keeps coming up with fresh material despite this being the 13th one in the series. I actually can't wait to see what can possibly happen in the next novel. I definitely recommend reading this but make sure you get through the other 12 books in the series before you start this one.

Covet Review

488 pages

Dangerous to be together. Painful to be apart. Savannah Colbert knows she broke up with Tristan Coleman for the right reasons. Most of all, to keep from killing him with her new vampire abilities. But try telling her heart. Now, lost in a sea of hostile Clann faces, Sav tries to come to terms with what she's becoming and what that means for her future. And that someone is doing their best to bully her into making a terrible mistake. Tristan can't believe Sav won't even talk to him. If being apart is her decision, fine. Just don't expect him to honor it. But even as he prepares to fight for the girl he loves, forces beyond their control take them both in directions neither could have foreseen or prepared for. A reckoning is coming… and not everyone will survive.

Review (ARC):
From the start of this book we're thrown into where the last novel left off with Savannah and Tristan on the plane heading home. The drama between Savannah and Tristan takes up the majority of this book. There is a lot of miscommunication that really isn't their fault but sometimes I wanted to shake some sense into Savannah for not seeing the obvious. Savannah is also going through a lot of changes in this novel as she becomes more vampire-like and there are some changes and discoveries on her Clann side as well. Some new introductions are made to new sides to the supernatural world and quite a few new revelations are made as well. Tristan annoyed me at some parts in this book with the hard time he gave Savannah but it definitely made their story more intriguing. By the end of the novel there's a huge change that left me ready for more. The ending is definitely amazing and action packed so I can't wait to see what happens next  for this couple. I definitely recommend this if you have read the first novel Crave or like paranormal romance books.

The Golden Lily Review

418 pages

Tough, brainy alchemist Sydney Sage and doe-eyed Moroi princess Jill Dragomir are in hiding at a human boarding school in the sunny, glamorous world of Palm Springs, California. The students--children of the wealthy and powerful--carry on with their lives in blissful ignorance, while Sydney, Jill, Eddie, and Adrian must do everything in their power to keep their secret safe. But with forbidden romances, unexpected spirit bonds, and the threat of Strigoi moving ever closer, hiding the truth is harder than anyone thought.

Review:
The second novel in the Bloodlines series, this doesn't disappoint. Once again we are thrown into the world of vampires seen through Sydney's eyes. Sydney is her usual capable and efficient self, although a bit narrow-minded as usual. Sydney has grown a lot since the first novel, she still does what she thinks is right, but her mind has opened a lot more from the Alchemists idea of vampires. I was also a little bit surprised that Sydney actually lets a little romance into her life and its interesting to see the way it turns out. All of the usual characters are back in full force with all the things we love about them. I love the way a fresh and new concept was brought to the storyline of this book. There are new dangers for Sydney and her friends to deal with and that creates an explosive and exciting ending. I cannot wait to see whats next for Sydney and the changes in her life in the next novel. I definitely recommend this if you have read the first book in this series Bloodlines.

Darkness Before Dawn Review

342 pages

This electrifying new trilogy blends the best of paranormal and dystopian storytelling in a world where the war is over. And the vampires won. Humans huddle in their walled cities, supplying blood in exchange for safety. But not even that is guaranteed. Dawn has lost her entire family and now reluctantly serves as the delegate to Lord Valentine, the most powerful vampire for miles. It isn’t until she meets Victor, Valentine’s son, that she realizes not all vampires are monsters....

Review:
Sometimes I think there are too many vampire novels. Then I read books like this and realize that there are still new ways of presenting them out there. Dawn isn't necessarily the best heroine ever. Dawn isn't an amazing fighter or the bravest person in the room. However, Dawn has an amazing heart and strength of character. The two men in Dawn's life are similar in their desire to protect her but that's where the similarities end. Michael is human and strong and brave, but a little too brave at times. Victor is loving, strong, and a genuine good person, except he's not a person but a vampire. The story moved at a great pace and kept me interested in every new development that was thrown my way. There were a few slightly predictable points but there were also some huge unexpected twists. I definitely enjoyed this novel and I can't wait to read the next one. I would recommend this to anyone who likes vampire novels and paranormal fiction.

Black Dawn Review

310 pages

In Last Breath, the rain brought a new and dire threat to Morganville and its vampires... their ancient enemies, the draug. Now, the vampires are fighting a losing war, and it will fall to the residents of the Glass House: Michael, Eve, Shane and Claire, to take the fight to an enemy who threatens to destroy the town, forever.

Review:
Once again an excellent addition to The Morganville Vampire series. For some reason I'm not tired of these books and this is the twelfth! Claire is as usual, the resourceful and spunky heroine we've gotten to know throughout the series. I've noticed that the author has also been giving us a bit of a view from other character's eyes as well lately and I actually appreciate that since it opens up a lot more of what's going on. This book has a lot of action and danger especially from the draug and there are also a lot of harrowing moments with some of our favorite characters. I really enjoyed the fact that this novel was a completely different storyline but just as entertaining as I've come to expect this series to be. I definitely recommend this to fans of The Morganville Vampires or just those who like vampire stories in general. If you haven't already, go out and read the first 11 books in the series!

Deadlocked Review

327 pages

With Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), in town, it’s the worst possible time for a body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank. Now, it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

Review:
I usually love the Sookie Stackhouse novels but this one fell completely flat with me. This was probably the least interesting one that I have read thus far and that says a lot. It seemed like in this novel there wasn't much of a story. Mostly it concentrated on Sookie's day to day life. The action picked up at the end of the novel but not quickly enough to save me from reading the practically endless boring parts. It seemed like most of the characters I had grown to love didn't have much to contribute. Now what I did enjoy was the twist created in this novel especially since it came out of practically nowhere. Other than that I can only hope that if there is a next novel in this series it goes back to the original Sookie Stackhouse that I've grown to love. I can't really recommend this as an enjoyable read but if you read the series and want to see what else is going on in Sookie's life then it passes the time.

Darkness Falls Review

286 pages

When the disease spread through the world, people had no choice but to go into hiding. The Colony is hidden deep underground, far away from the vampires—humans that were transformed by the disease. The vampires are hideous, starving, and they will kill any human they come across.Seventeen-year-old Kayla is a Bellator, a warrior that protects The Colony. In order to survive, there are three rules she must follow:
Rule #1—Never go out after dark.
Rule #2—Always carry a weapon.
Rule #3—No matter what, never EVER get bit.
But what happens when the rules Kayla has always lived by can no longer apply? The Highers run The Colony and accept nothing less than perfection. One slip up can mean death. Kayla has always worked hard to follow the rules and strive for perfection. But during a moment of weakness, she lets her imperfections show. Her punishment is worse than death. She is chosen for The Gathering and is thrown out into a world full of starving vampires. No one has ever survived The Gathering, at least that’s what Kayla’s been told. But when she runs into a group who insist they were once part of The Gathering, Kayla discovers the Highers have been keeping secrets. Secrets that could lead to a cure.

Review:
This book left me feeling slightly confused (but in a good way) yet hungry for the next one in the series. This is a world where vampires have basically taken over and to be human means something else entirely. Kayla is a strong heroine with exceptional fighting abilities. For a good part of the book you're left in the dark about who she really is and the other secrets and lies that surround her. This doesn't make the story any less intriguing especially as the secrets begin to unravel. The vampires in this book are different from most, a result of the disease that changed them. I really enjoyed all of the action and twists and turns that occurred in this novel. There are a lot of moments where things happen that change your whole perspective of the world in this story and the characters. There are quite a few characters that Kayla meets along the way that help her learn more about herself but also reveal more about the world around them. The ending leaves you in a bit of a cliffhanger but also anticipating the next book in the series. I definitely recommend this novel to those who like dystopian and vampire novels.

The Hunt Review

304 pages
Release date: May 8th, 2012

Don’t Sweat. Don’t Laugh. Don’t draw attention to yourself. And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them. Gene is different from everyone else around him. He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood. Gene is a human, and he knows the rules. Keep the truth a secret. It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood. When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him. He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?

Review (ARC):
The concept of this book is genius and the ending left me anticipating the next one. Finally some vampires that don't sparkle! Imagine a world where everyone is a vampire except for you. And you can't let anyone know or you'll be killed instantaneously. Gene has to live a very careful and precise life so that he can blend in with the other vampires. Just the slightest mistake can reveal that he's human and end his life forever. Gene is randomly chosen for a game to hunt humans. This is an even more dangerous experience than Gene has prepared for and it becomes a struggle for him to maintain. Being around other hunters and humans brings a lot of thoughts and questions that Gene hadn't had before. There is quite a bit of action and a little bit of romance in this novel. The ending reveals something MAJOR and then just ends so I definitely can't wait to read the next book. I definitely recommend this novel especially to those who like bloodthirsty vampires, action, adventure and just a generally awesome read.

Last Breath Review

335 pages
With her boss preoccupied researching the Founder Houses in Morganville, student Claire Danvers is left to her own devices when she learns that three vampires have vanished without a trace. She soon discovers that the last person seen with one of the missing vampires is someone new to town—a mysterious individual named Magnus. After an uneasy encounter with Morganville’s latest resident, Claire is certain Magnus isn’t merely human. But is he a vampire—or something else entirely?

Review:
I never get tired of the Morganville Vampires series. Its always a new and exciting storyline with subtle differences to keep the story fresh. Claire is such a great heroine because not only is she brave she's also highly intelligent as well. Viewpoints are not only through Claire's eyes but this time we see views from some of the other characters at well. It definitely doesn't make the novel confusing but it gives it a great new twist.  I actually think this might be the best book in the series. The ending completely surprised me and left me excited and waiting for the next book in the series. I definitely recommend this novel if you have read the others in the series.

Packed with heartache, twists, and vampiric folklore, Lost in Time is sure to satisfy hungry fans' cravings for more Blue Bloods adventure.

Review:
What can I say about this novel? When this series first started I loved it. It was fresh, new and exciting. By the time this book rolled around the series has gotten drawn out and boring. There is so much random things going on that the book just doesn't seem that interesting anymore. Schuyler was such a great character in the first book but it seems she's lost that spark that connected me to her as a character. I feel like most of the questions brought up in the book weren't answered at all. The only parts I really liked were when the focus was on Mimi and Oliver. Their adventure to find Kingsley was interesting and fun. Basically for this series I can only hope the next book picks things back up or just comes to an end..

Destined Review

352 pages
In Destined, the forces of Light and Dark collide as their epic struggle focuses on Tulsa's House of Night. Zoey is home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side and preparing to face off against Neferet. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, he and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together if Rephaim can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow. But is Zoey really safe? Does she truly know those who are closest to her? And will love win when it is tested by the very soul of Darkness?

Review:
This novel is another good addition to the House of Night Series.First let me say this series is such a guilty pleasure of mine. Its one of those series that you really shouldn't enjoy but you do anyways. So once again we see Zoey learning more about herself and the others around her and trying to figure out ways to defeat Neferet. There is a lot of plotting and some action at the end of the book that of course ends in a cliffhanger. Always leave them wanting more right? Anyways this is a great continuation of the series and I can't wait to see what happens next. If you want to read this make sure you read the other books first.
